Wunderbar! (Or, how to not leave the hostel for an entire day)
Drinking at Reggae Mansion hostel in Kuala Lumpur.
To be fair, I did, actually, leave the hostel on my last day in Kuala Lumpur. I strolled out of bed, too late for breakfast, again, at about 11. I sat down with the unnamed traveler for a bit before heading off for a stroll through Chinatown and to get some lunch.
My plan for the day was actually to get some laundry done (I’ll be honest, I smell) and make out a plan for where I was going the next day. I still really had no idea.
And then I came back to the Reggae Mansion.
And I saw Ben (the Aussie) and Steven (the German) sitting down for “happy hour” drinks. Now, happy hour at the hostel lasted from 12 noon to 9pm.
And thus began the days downfall.
I started with a tequila sunrise, which I reasoned was a “breakfast drink” anyways. And then there was another. And then some fruity drink that tasted like koolaid. And then we shared a pitcher of margaritas. And then I had a beer with dinner. And then a mojito while we played pool (and even though I suck I did OK). And then another tequila sunrise.
Which may have been a bad idea.
So, on my last day in KL I hardly left the hostel. I certainly didn’t make a plan for the next day. I certainly didn’t do laundry. And we certainly didn’t make it to either of the movies we said we were going to watch.
But I sat around, drinking, and talking with new friends, getting my ipod and camera borrowed for fake Facebook statuses and way too many pictures. And maybe putting that privacy curtain on my dorm bed to good use…
It was really a fine way to spend the day.

November 14, 2011at3:32 amSometimes it is! One of my favorite things about travel is the people I meet, so some days I’d much rather have a great day with new friends than see another temple or something.

November 14, 2011at10:27 amThe guy in the vest and shades has a look of Chris Martin from Coldplay. That’s my random observation for the day.
