Dylan's 2nd Birthday

Two-Two: my nephew’s second birthday.

Yesterday we celebrated my nephew Dylan‘s second birthday. He’s at that point where he thinks he can talk but when he tries to have a conversation I just respond with “what was that?” or humor him by saying “exactly.” The only things I can really make out are “uh oh” or “car fall over” or “train.” And he’s obsessed with trains. So much so that he seemed to care way more about the fold-out train card I bought him than the Mr. Potato head that was attached. Never mind that the card said “Happy 4th Birthday” on it. He can’t read it anyways.

There was popcorn with chocolate and gummy bears and Dylan discovered a new love of marshmallows. And there was fried chicken and pasta. And chocolate cake. And more toys than you can ever imagine. And one very sugared up two year old.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
