Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.

And then there were people like me who couldn’t watch, but cheered you on from 4000 miles away and checked twitter during that night’s World Cup game to find out how many hot dogs you ate. I’m sooo happy for you that you accomplished one of your dreams, even if you came in last place. That part doesn’t really matter. You wanted to do this, you found a way to do it, and you had fun. Mission accomplished. I’m proud of you.

I can only hope the random guy in the crowd is just a blog reader who was there to cheer you on. Maybe he’ll see this post and identify himself?
