A Tea Party Bridal Shower: April Flowers bring May Showers

Today we threw a tea party bridal shower for my sister Jen, who is getting married this summer.

We went to the Pickwick Society Tearoom in Frankfort, Illinois, and had ourselves a tea party.

For food, there were many yummy tea sandwiches (like egg salad on pumpernickel, cucumber and cream cheese, and vegetable rollups) and many yummy desserts (like Italian Wedding Cookies and fruit tarts. And, of course, there were teas. I had some really nice vanilla chai and vanilla cream teas.

We played some wedding shower games, like “Guess how well you know Jennifer” where you had to guess that Jen likes to sing “I Like Big Butts” to Dale and that their favorite thing to do together is not, in fact, sit around and do nothing. And then we played “guess the celebrity wedding” where we had to guess the celebrity wedding.

And then Jen opened all of her presents because that’s what people do at bridal showers.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
