Spanish Medication

Still just sick in Barcelona…

So, you know how I said I was sick some weeks back? Well, even after going to the hospital in Madrid, even after taking two different cough medicines, even after weeks of suffering, I was still not feeling better and my cough just wasn’t going away.

My cough seemed to be getting better. And then it got worse.

And then I got a sore throat. And a high fever. And chills. And seriously didn’t know what to do.

Luckily the woman I’m staying with in Barcelona called a private doctor for me. So I went the other day and he spoke decent English. He said it’s not a problem with my lungs but it a viral infection that turned into a histamine infection.

So he prescribed me some penicillin and antihistamines and ibuprofen.

And, let me tell you, getting treated was cheaper to get medical attention here without insurance than it would have been at home with insurance.

I spent almost my whole week in bed watching movies and downloaded Food Network TV shows and whatever I could get free on mtv.com and DVDs of Mad Men.

Just resting.

And at least my sore throat and fever have gone away. Though I am still coughing. And I’m wondering if that will ever subside…

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.

I hope you get better… that is just horrible! Good thing you are sick in an apartment… couldnt imagine in a hostel! Did you finish Modern Family?

Hope you get better soon. Amox-Clav is a pretty tough antibiotic. I can’t take it, it makes me feel like my eyes are drying up. Though, if they said it’s viral I can’t understand why you got it. The Actithiol can be making you drowsy by the way.

I have found myself since I started working more in the pharmacy, looking up every drug someone tells me they are taking.

I’m glad the meds are helping some. I’m sure the cough will go away in time.
