Virginia/North Carolia Road Trip - Korner's Folly

North Carolina Road Trip & The Second Best Water Ever.

North Carolina Road Trip - Korner’s Folly, roadside attractions, a street festival, and Lexington BBQ.

Sadie had to work this morning but when she was done she raced back home to start our day’s adventure! She got a nice slice of a day in the life of Silly America, and I got a nice slice of NC BBQ (quite literally!)

Out first stop was Korner’s Folly, a house that contains 22 rooms spread out over 7 levels on 3 floors…

To make that happen this included some floors that were cut in half so that they were only slightly taller than us. And there were some pretty slim doors and stairways too!

After our tour of the house we went to get some Lexington BBQ (known for its red sauce that is seasoned with ketchup, vinegar, and pepper)…I had a chopped BBQ sandwich and some hush puppies and fries…

I also had my first experience ever with sweet tea.

And my oh my was that sweet!

Next we went on a little giant furniture tour. First we went to Thomasville and saw the World’s Largest Duncan Phyfe Chair.

We then moved on to other things like a shell-shaped gas station, a cow in the sky, and a big coffee pot!

We took a little time off from touring to pick up some supplies for tomorrow’s bluegrass festival at the Wal-Mart.

Then we headed to the downtown Winston-Salem area for a little street fest with performers.

By then we were kind of hungry again so we headed to Mellow Mushroom and shared some garlic parmesan pretzels and a Philosopher’s Pizza…

And it was delicious.

And now I am stuffed.

My Virginia/North Carolina Road Trip:

Day 1: You know you take the scenic route when…

Day 2: I don’t do well with decisions.

Day 3/Day 4: And all the roads that lead you there were winding.

Day 5: I swear we were infinite.

Day 6: Chicago needs more mountains.

Day 7: Second Best Water Ever.

Day 8: RedBone Willy’s Bluegrass & Acoustic Music Festival.

Day 9: It ain’t over till it’s over.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
