I didn’t mean to stay in San Juan del Sur for eight nights. In fact, I really didn’t think I would go at all. But I ended up following some friends there, and we got into town on a Monday, and the only thing I really wanted to do there was go to the Sunday Funday pool crawl…yes, I said pool crawl…so, I stayed eight nights. Because, well…pool crawl.

There wasn’t all that much to do by day there. But that’s OK, because I was mostly tired and slightly hungover by day anyways. Hey, it’s a party town. I did have fun going out by night. And I did manage to find a Canadian sports bar that was showing the Stanley Cup finals. Which was pretty awesome. And I did do a couple of shuttles to different beaches.

It was also where I ended up saying goodbye for probably the final time to some people I’ve been running into everywhere for the past two months. Most of them had about two or three weeks left and I still had about 3 months ahead of me, so while they planned to breeze through Costa Rica and head to Panama, I planned to linger. Though, maybe I didn’t need to linger quite so much in San Juan del Sur…

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
