The Beach - Phi Phi Island Booze Cruise

Phi Phi Island Booze Cruise to The Beach

On our last full day in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand, Steven and I boarded a Koh Phi Phi Island booze cruise around the islands. Of course, for me, this meant little drinking (me + booze + rocky boat is not a good combination) and that I was the only one on board wearing a life jacket the whole time. Because I’m totally lame.

Did I ever mention that I can’t really swim?

But still, on the Koh Phi Phi booze cruise there were beautiful beaches and beautiful swimming and beautiful little monkeys and a beautiful sunset… And, of course, there was the beautiful Maya Bay, the beach made famous by the movie The Beach.

We visited Ton Sai Bay, best known as Monkey Beach, where wild monkeys stole our bananas and climbed on top of us. We visited a hidden lagoon, accessible by swimming under jagged rock formations, and went snorkeling in the pristine blue waters surrounded by limestone cliffs. We visited Maya Bay, an enclosed wonderland made popular after being the filming location for the film version of Alex Garland’s The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. And we watched the sun set through Wang Long Bay, “The Kissing Rock Faces.”

While the Phi Phi party boat on the Thailand booze cruise wasn’t really my cup of tea, it was still a nice way to get off the main island and explore the surrounding waters.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.

I love the sunset pictures! (but why isn’t there a picture of you in the life jacket?)
