Organized Storage Room

Only three months to go…

An update on my 30 before 30 list.

Three months from today I will be 30. Here’s an update on my 30 before 30 list.

30 before 30

1. pay off my credit card
2. get a manicure/pedicure
3. get a massage

4. import and caption all of the photos on my website
Done done done! About a year ago I switched to this wonderful new photo gallery application. For four years before that I was creating galleries using Photoshop. They did their purpose but they took a bit of work to set up and they weren’t very dynamic. With my new system I am able to tag people and search by keyword.

For instance you can find every photo of me! Or you can search for how many things I’ve mentioned are pink!

Which is awesome. Since I switched to that new system, and since redesigning my blog made all those Photoshop galleries the wrong design and since I redesigned the blog to be 150 pixels wider I had a huge task ahead. I redid every single gallery. I resized all the photos. I recaptioned all the photos. I tagged people and things in all the photos. I went through my blog and updated the photos with new urls and sizes.

And I am finally done done done!

And, for the record, that is 16,984 photos in 346 albums.

I take a lot of photos.

5. Caption all of the photos on Silly America

6. fix all the little things on my website
Not done, but I’ve gotten a few little things finished. Still a few more things to get “right.”

7. organize the stuff in our storage room
Finished! My little corner of our storage room is now in order! No longer do I have a pile of stuff I just throw in there every time I don’t know what to do with something!

8. organize all the stuff I have at my parent’s house
About halfway done. I think I need to spend one more day there.

9. clean and keep things clean.
I spent much of the weekend cleaning and except for a big bag of laundry my room is completely clean. And the rest of the apartment is getting there. Now just to keep it clean…

10. Go through all my magazines.
11. Make a budget.
12. Read three travel guides.
13. Have that talk.
14. eat at the Publican.
15. Take guitar lessons.
17. lose 10 pounds.
18. finish my professional photography website
19. Figure out plane tickets.

20. Go camping
I did! I went camping twice! Once at Turkey Run, once at RedBone Willy’s!

21. Cook mussels.
22. Back up all my photos.

23. Sign up for direct deposit.
So…after four years working here…I finally got direct deposit! I felt so embarrassed that I’d waited so long that I filled out the paperwork and then put it in an interoffice envelope to payroll right before I left for my ten day vacation…

24. Open an Etsy store
25. Come up with my “blog plan.”

26. Clean my desk at work.
I actually started doing this! I cleaned out two of the four drawers completely! I am such a messy person…

27. Submit a short story to a journal.

28. Get a haircut.
I got myself a $15 hair cut at Hair Cuttery before leaving on vacation. But I kind of want to still go for a good-er haircut soon.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
