Siam Square in Bangkok, Thailand

One night in Bangkok.

Siam Square in Bangkok, Thailand.

After a night train from Chiang Mai I settled into my Bangkok hostel in Siam Square. The area was more geared towards shopping malls than anything else. But there would be a big eating contest in the area a few days later and so I figured it might be good to stay close to there for a bit.

I had some work in the area to get done anyways. I got my camera fixed. I applied for a visa.

And I explored the Arts and Cultural Center. That had a powerful display of photographs from the recent flooding. And a photo exhibit of places from around the world. The first thing I saw when I entered was a giant photo of the Bean. Something I used to pass by at least once a week. And I stared for a very long time.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
