Cat on the Computer

My last weekend in Chicago…

Moving to the 'burbs before leaving to travel.

I had to bring Chelsa back her crock pot. I had borrowed it to make hot chocolate in for my birthday party back in January. SO I brought it back and we went to Hopleaf for mussels and beer.

I had a furlough day on Friday. And, of course, I still woke up early. So I treated myself to a Groupon-bought breakfast of a cafe mocha and banana bread french toast from Bakin’ & Eggs. It was a good thing I woke up early anyways. Because they were working on the street and it would have probably woken my up all the same.

And I spent all day packing everything into boxes.

And then Heather and I went to Burrito House. And we ate tacos.

And Bo worked hard to make sure my files kept backing up.

And I got a milkshake from Scooters. Wherever I live from now on I must have a milkshake shop close by. It’s essential.

Milkshakes are awesome.

And I braved the downpours to watch Mat in Maid of Orleans. And then we went down the block for beers.

Mat was in a play.

And I got take out gnocchi from Frasca for dinner.

And I packed and moved. And packed and moved. Down three flights. Up two. And I drove away.

I will miss this skyline.

And Goat and Flopsy moved with me. They will miss the city too.

And I finished moving everything into my mom’s place. And my knees were very purple.

Bruised knees.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
