My 30s are going to rock.
My 30th birthday.
My 30s are going to rock.
Just sayin.
I have big plans. Big. Huge. Amazing. Monumental.
But I’m not ready to tell you here just yet. For a variety of reasons.
You’ll just have to wait.
So I turned 30 on Wednesday. It’s a big number. It’s a number that makes you step back and take stock and think. It’s a number that might make you freak out if you didn’t have plans to turn your 30s into the most awesome decade of your life.
So I was OK with it.
Since I had had a big thirtieth birthday party over the weekend I just wanted a low-key celebration on the actual day. I still wanted to do something so I didn’t end up spending my night alone on my couch watching American Idol.
So I gathered up a handful of friends and we headed to Piece Pizzeria for dinner.
I love Piece. While I can’t turn my back on the thick Chicago-style pizza, their New Haven-style is great when you just want something different…and they offer loads of awesome toppings. And since it was my birthday I could force everyone into getting the pizza I wanted: a white pizza topped with olive oil, mozzarella, mashed potato and bacon.
I know you’re probably thinking that that sounds disgusting. And yeah, I thought the same thing too when another friend of mine first ordered it. But since then I was in love.
I left for dinner after work and Chelsa and I drank while waiting for the others. Heather came and sang me the Disney Happy Birthday song. In the heat of thinking she was dying that morning she forgot to wake me up to it like she did last year.
Jenny came and Mat came and our pizza came…
And it was delicious.
And then they brought us a CHOCOLATE PIZZA. CHOCOLATE. PIZZA. And if you know me you know that I like just about anything if chocolate is involved.
Good times.
After dinner I went back to Mat’s place and we got a bottle of wine and watched a Liev Schreiber movie marathon. OK, so that wasn’t intentional but we watch Party Girl and The Ten and that both happened have him in it. Which is odd, because I don’t think I’ve seen him in a movie since the 90s.
But anyways.
So I am now 30. Officially. And so freaking ready for this next decade of my life. So let me for today leave you with my birthday horoscope from Holiday Mathis (the only astrologist I trust), which I think pretty well sums up how I hope the year will go…
TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Jan. 19). Your health and stamina are high this year, and you’ll have the energy to tackle your more ambitious dreams. The pressure is on in April, and you show everyone what you can do and surprise even yourself! Give to someone in need in March. You’ll be a hero. Travel is favored for July and September.

Saving the name of the pizza place for my American road trip.
