My car, Black Pickle, on a Missouri road trip.

Goodbye my car, Black Pickle.

I sold my car today.

Most people are actually shocked that I didn’t sell it before I left to travel for the first time. But, if you remember, my original plan was to only be abroad for about 9 months and then road trip around the US. And I would have needed my car for that. But then I ended up staying away for 15 months. And then I didn’t road trip for various reasons. And then I had to get a new battery. And a new tire. And my car got towed and I didn’t notice until 9 days later. And I decided that I really should get rid of him.

It’s sad, because my Saturn took me to Mount Rushmore and North Carolina and countless eating contests. And I imagined him taking me to 48 states. But, right now, it makes no sense for me to keep him around. Plus, I owed Heather five months of back-rent. So I took him to Carmax today, accepted their offer, and handed off everything they gave me to Heather.

It’s sad, but for the best.

So goodbye my car, Black Pickle. Goodbye.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
