Genocide Museum & Killing Fields in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
I’m really not a history buff. I’m the kind of person who can hear a roll of facts and figures and have each one go straight through her head. Who can read an entire signpost and not recall a single thing it said. Who thinks more with her heart than with her head.
And so I will not be giving you a history lesson here on the Khmer Rouge. Instead I will tell you that spending a day at the Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh was a somber day, it was powerful and weighed heavy on my heart and made me tear up a bit thinking that, much like when I visited Auschwitz, what we could think of as “history” was really, dangerously, too recent…
