Manila, Philippines

Christmas in Manila.

A day around in Manila, Philippines.

When I first arrived in Manila it was raining. Horrible rain that didn’t stop for four days. I could hardly leave the apartment. Before leaving the Philippines for good (or at least for the time being), I came back for a few more days to again see my friend Jackie. She and her friend Manny took me around to see some of the city. We spent a good day going around Chinatown and seeing some churches, the National Museum, a park. I’m glad I have some wonderful friends to show me around because I’m not sure it’s the kind of city you can appreciate on your own.

I’ll miss the Philippines. It was one of the most beautiful countries I’ve been to so far. And the people are some of the friendliest. Especially Jackie, who showed me amazing hospitality…and the random people on busses who were always offering me food.

p.s. I totally met a fan while in Manila! Can you believe someone besides my mom reads my blog? I can’t. She was super sweet. 🙂

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
