Last week, to celebrate the Chinese New Year, I met up with some friends for a Lao Sze Chuan hot pot dinner in Chicago Chinatown. Chinese New Year, AKA Spring Festival, is a holiday that celebrates the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. It's traditionally celebrated in February, about a month after New Year New Year. The hot pot, which I've never done before, involved cooking meats in boiling liquids (we did one side mild and the other hot and spicy), which was delicious and weird, and terribly messy...

Last Saturday was crazy. One of those days that I had so much going on but it was all low key, giving the perfect mixture of a relaxing Saturday and a day of debauchery. It started with bacon. Because, let’s face it, most good things start with bacon. Provenance Food and Wine was hosting a "mini-Baconfest," which really ended up being tinier than mini, there were only four or five vendors, but we still got free bacon and bacon chocolate and bacon ice cream samples, so all is good. Since the whole thing only took all of five minutes we decided to head...

My 30s are going to rock. Just sayin. I have big plans. Big. Huge. Amazing. Monumental. But I'm not ready to tell you here just yet. For a variety of reasons. You'll just have to wait. Since I had had a big thirtieth birthday party over the weekend I just wanted...

Well it's the last day of 2010! I can't believe how quickly this year flew by! In the grand scheme of things I guess it was an OK year. While I didn't do anything completely amazing I managed to survive the year without any catastrophes. Well, unless you count having to get all of my wisdom teeth removed. Usually I end the year with a massive recap of everything I did. And I put together a slideshow of all my photos that I am sure I am the only one who watches. This year I was lazy. Or maybe I...

1. Before Chelsa left Chicago for the holidays we decided to grab breakfast at Orange. We split some frushi and each got a pancake flight. My favorite was the bacon stuffed pancake with blueberry sauce.   2. Last week Heather and I went to Frasca for dinner. I wasn't that hungry so I got a salad. And a Tiramisu. I have my priorities.   3. Music Box Theatre hosted an "Alternative" Christmas Double Feature: Gremlins and Die Hard. I had never seen Die Hard and hadn't seen Gremlins in a very long time. Both were kind of awesome. And by kind of I mean...

This is the pizza I got with Chelsa this week at Piece Brewery and Pizzeria. It was a white pizza with spinach and red onions and bacon. It was delicious. So was my Festivus beer....
