I had a tough decision to make this Thanksgiving. I'm really the only one in the family who cooks. Or at least who cooks extravagantly. Last year I made the entire Thanksgiving dinner from scratch. And, for very many reasons, it was the hardest thing I've ever done. I wasn't really in the mood to do that again this year. We tossed around a few ideas. We debated just going out to eat. Which I was really tempted to do. But, since I probably won't be there next Thanksgiving, and maybe the one after, I kind of wanted a meal at...

I used to be really good at controlling my spending and putting money into savings and paying off my credit card in full every month. Of course, I also used to live with my parents and, therefore, had very few expenses. And then there's the fact that I've had a really depressing couple of years and, lately, the thought of a nice warm (and expensive) Starbucks white mocha has been the only thing that could drag me out of bed...

1. Some random food I made over a month ago and never posted. They all contain eggs: Croissantwich with egg and cheese. Frittata with potatoes, mushrooms, onion, and goat cheese. Mushroom onion scramble. AKA a mix of a bunch of leftovers. 2. One day I was walking along and the More Cupcake truck happened to be parked and they were giving away free cupcakes. Mmm, red velvet! 3. Joe and Meredith are leaving for Pittsburgh soon! :-( They had a going away party. 4. Let's see if I can remember all the times I hung out with Mat...

1. At Whole Foods one day they were giving out free packets of new Frontera Grill skillet sauces. I ended up taking a packet of Key Lime Cilantro Taco Skillet Sauce, not noticing that the packet said it was seasoning for fish and seafood. Now, I love fish and seafood, but for some reason Mexican seafood has never really jived with me. So I decided instead to use it on some chicken. I was certain the Rick Bayless gods wouldn't hunt me down. I boiled some chicken then cooked some onions, added the shredded chicken, and simmered them both in the sauce...

I've been trying to get to more good restaurants this year. Luckily Joe and Meredith have spearheaded a movement to get together once a month at a place we've all wanted to try. Unluckily they will soon be moving to Pittsburgh so this newly found tradition will probably be short lived. Last weekend though was our second installment at one of the current "it" places of Chicago: Girl & The Goat, a semi-casual West Loop restaurant opened by Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard. The restaurant has a goat theme with goats on the walls, the staff t-shirts, the menus and even...

1. Whenever I find a band I like, inevitably they have played down the block from me a few months ago. 2. They've made a pea puree on at least half of the episodes on Top Chef this season. 3. I like to wear clothes in layers. One day this week I realized that I was wearing five shirts. That might have been overkill. 4. Looking at my road trip photos I have determined that I really need to get my camera cleaned. 5. Monday I had to leave Mat's place early because he had to golf. So I chilled on the couch all...

1. a lady offered me a seat on the train. No. An oldish lady gathered her three grocery-sized bags of stuff and reached over other standing women to tap me and offer me her seat even though she was not getting off. While I appreciate that there are people who will offer their seats to pregnant ladies I am not one of them....
