My new nephew and godson, Colin, was born last August while I was in Barcelona. Which means that, when I finally met him, he was fourteen months old. Fourteen months old. I guess, to him, it didn't really matter, because he's at the age where he won't remember anything that was up over the past year anyways. And when we went out to dinner last week I was just another face who brought him a toy. But, to me, it's a little hard. Because I'm not sure if I ever will have children of my own. My nephews are all I...

When I was maybe 9 or 10 years old I had my first hamster. His name was Tribble and I got him from a pet store in the mall. [caption id="attachment_90593" align="alignnone" width="1000"] My hamster Tribble[/caption] He was a cute little fluff ball that I kept in my room and let scamper around in a little green orb. One night after I'm not sure how long I had him I noticed that he was moving very slowly. I tried to put some food into his mouth but he wouldn't eat it. In the morning I went to my mom and told her that...

My dad passed away on Monday. It was both expected and sudden. About a year ago he was diagnosed with tongue cancer. Chemo and radiation didn't help. A few months ago they removed his tongue and voice box. And despite the fact that he would never talk or eat again he seemed to be better. He was able to drive and shop and cook still. It was hard because besides me and my sisters one of his favorite things was cooking and going to restaurants. When the chemo started he was unable to eat from the pain. He started making a...

Sunday was Mother's Day so my family met up at Jennifer's place for a Chinese food lunch. I took a lot of pictures of the baby. Everyone calls Dylan "The Baby." Jen thinks she taught Dylan to throw a ball. That just means she puts a ball on him and it rolls off. I also took pictures of Samson because he feels left out. ...

Sunday we threw a baby shower for my sister. I really shouldn't be allowed to throw a baby shower as I refused to do anything babyish. It was kind of an owl-themed baby shower. But kind of not. (There wasn't much reason for the owl theme other than the fact that the only baby shower invitations I found that I liked had owls on them. So we got some owl decorations, made an owl cake, and called it a theme.) We had bagels and I made some killer hot chocolate in a crock pot. I also made an owl cake for...

"Ouch, you naughty lion. You mustn't bite." It's funny when three people all have the same memory and it turns out to be wrong. For probably twenty now I've been searching for a book. It was one of those things that was published well before I was born and was read to my two sisters and finally to me. I had a vague idea that it was a Golden Book (because, really, what children's book wasn't a Golden Book?) I had a vague recollection of what the child in the book looked like. And I remembered one line: "Ouch, you naughty lion....

I hope all y'all had a very Merry Christmas/Hanukkah/Goat Day/Whatever it is you celebrate this time of year. As Bromann Family tradition dictates, we went to see a movie this afternoon: Sweeney Todd. It was an enjoyable movie, good, but not fantastic. It also felt entirely too long when it started at 11 and we weren't going to open presents until after the movie. I also didn't like the ending even though it was appropriate but sometimes you just want everything to be happy and smiley and it's so completely not. So once the movie was over we headed back home. Jen...
