Sweet and Sour Chicken in Bruges, Belgium

Brussels Sprouts

What I ate in Belgium.

I did a terrible job at eating well in Belgium. It was partly because there wasn’t really a Belgian cuisine I was dying to try. And partly because Belgium seemed to have so much more cheap options. And I wanted to save my Euros for all the eating I’m going to do in Paris and Spain!

I did get the standard waffle. And frites.

I did mean to get moules frites. But I never did. Everywhere they were just immensely expensive. And all the restaurants just had the same photo of them in the window. So instead I ate…

Roast chicken in Brussels, Belgium

Roast chicken in Brussels, Belgium
There was a chicken fast food place close to the hostel. It was so tasty. I may have gotten it twice…

hostel cooking
One night I made oatmeal. Simply because my hostel roommates were leaving for home and had an unopened bag left. I needed to buy milk for it. None of the milk was refrigerated. I hope I don’t die.

Cheap hamburger in Brussels, Belgium
Jaime is on much more of a budget than I am. So he liked to eat cheap. So we went to this place twice that had a burger, fries, and Coke for 3 euro.

We had cookies for breakfast one day.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
