Fremont Troll in Seattle, Washington

Back to January.

A visit to Seattle, Washington.

After a week in Hawaii, I headed back to Seattle with Jen and Andrew to hang out for a few days. I’ve been to Seattle twice(ish) before and have pretty much exhausted the city’s attractions, so I had no major plans other than to walk around, drink coffee, and chill out with my friends. I ended up exploring some of my old favorites: Pike Place, the sculpture park, and the weird roadside art in Fremont. I discovered new attractions, like the Locks, where boats get to rise up in the water to transition from salt water to fresh. I met up with Kat, who I’d only before known via Twitter, for an afternoon of ferry rides and coffee. I played pinball and wanted to steal a latch hook at an awesome hipster bar in the “hood.” And I ate the hell out of Seattle, of course. But more on that later.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
