East Side Gallery in Berlin, Germany

All in all it’s just another brick in the wall.

When I booked a ticket to Berlin about the only thing I knew that was there was the Berlin Wall. And I also knew that that was torn down some time ago. So I guess I didn’t really know anything here.

A stretch of the wall is still up and used as an art installation called East Side Gallery. And I went there on the morning of my second day before I went to the museum of contemporary art.

And then I went to what seemed like the other side of Berlin to the documentation center that had more stuff about the Wall.

And today I went to the other other side of Berlin to check out Checkpoint Charlie, the crossing point in the Berlin Wall between the East and West. Or, what has become kind of a tourist trap. (But we all know I love me some tourist traps.)

P.S. When I went to look up the title of this post to make sure I got it right I saw this and burst out crying in the hostel lobby…

Daddy’s flown across the ocean
Leaving just a memory
Snapshot in the family album
Daddy what else did you leave for me?
Daddy, what’d’ja leave behind for me?!?

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
