1. Thank you to Glen for sending over this unaired 1994 pilot of 24.

2. The other day I was watching a 1949 detective show called Streets of San Francisco. At one point the detective sits in his office and says “I’ve been awake for 36 hours and I’m not going to sleep until I figure this out.” Jack Bauer would have figured it out quicker. But then they were listening to a tape reel and heard a train whistle go off in the background and managed to figure out where it was coming from from the tape…it was totally the 24 of the day.

3. So 24 is over. Not just the season but the series. So we headed over to Joe and Alina’s place one more time to watch together. We ate some African stew and settled in for the last couple of hours of the show. It ended more smoothly than most of the seasons ended. Everything kind of wrapped up a little neatly in the last half hour. They billed it as having an ending that “no one would suspect” but really, by now, after an atomic bomb went off in L.A., after a president has been shot, after Jack was killed and came back to life…is anything really a shock on that show? Anything could have happened and we would have accepted it. Well, I guess if Jack stopped for a bathroom break or a burger or something we might have been surprised.

Hi, I'm Val. I spent most of my 20s in a standstill, unable to pick which path in life I wanted to take. I wanted the nomadic life of a traveler but also wanted the husband, the condo, and the kitten. Unable to decide which life I wanted more, I did nothing. When I turned 30 I’d had enough of putting my life on hold and decided to start “choosing my figs.” So, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Europe, and traveled for three years. Now I'm back in Chicago, decorating my apartment in all the teal, petting my cats, and planning my next adventure.
